Statement from the Board of Management of Beneavin De La Salle College

It has come to the attention of the Board of Management of Beneavin De La Salle College that allegations are being made on social media against young people, some of whom are alleged to be from our school, involved in a highly offensive racist assault and video, during the summer holidays, in recent days.

The Board of Management is extremely shocked at the content of the video and expresses its regret at the awful distress and upset that this has caused to the victim, the local community and our own school community.

Beneavin De La Salle College promotes an inclusive, caring community which is built on equality and respect for all.  It is an environment in which students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own behaviour and to look out for others.

The school takes very seriously all allegations of racism. The board of management of the school will be immediately engaging in all of its current policies and procedures including the Code of Behaviour and the Anti-Bullying Policy.

As the Garda Síochána are currently investigating this incident, the Board of Management of Beneavin De La Salle College are co-operating with the Garda and will not be making any further comment.
