The aim of Junior Certificate Irish in the college is to improve the students ability to communicate through Irish.  There is a focus on improving your language skills through concentrating on four areas:    

  • Speaking
  • Listening
  • Writing
  • Reading

Junior Certificate Irish is assessed in the following way:

  • an aural exam- listen to a CD and answer questions based on it
  • a written exam- answer questions about what has been studied

The written part of the exam ranges from writing a postcard,  reading a notice to commenting on a piece of poetry or story you have never seen before, writing essays to letter writing.

The exam can be taken at Higher, Ordinary or Foundation level.
