Ireland Rugby International Sophie Spence Visits Beneavin

by Dillon Keating, Sixth Year

Ireland v Wales - Women's Six Nations Rugby Championship

On Monday 3rd November Ireland Rugby International Sophie Spence came to the college.  She works in Student Support & Development at DCU.  She came to give a talk to the sixth years. When she was young Sophie had a life goal of being a teacher but she taught us that not everything can come easy to you and you get out of something what you put into it.

Sophie is now an Irish Ladies International rugby player.  She is a great athlete.  Sophie taught us all about college and how much work we need to put in.  She taught us the ins and outs of college and how the system works.  Sophie was determined to do well for herself, and by the looks of it she has gone beyond what she wanted to achieve.  Sophie taught me to not have a standard.  Just never stop because in every situation there’s always ways of reaching your goal.  You just never stop because in life there’s just no bar to hit and then stop all your work in life.

Sophie taught me a valuable thing and that is life isn’t what you expect.  It has its ups and downs.   Life will never be always good to you but you just can’t stop and feel sorry for yourself.  You have to just keep driving through to get where you want to go in life.  Be ambitious in life and don’t let anyone or anything get in your way.

It was great listening to Sophie’s life story.  I learned a lot of useful things from her.  So thanks to Sophie for taking the time to visit us.
